5 Points Gallery is featuring works by Chapel Hill artist, Donna Stubbs, through March 5, 2022. Donna's new series of abstract mixed media paintings have lush complex surfaces that combine painterly brush strokes with carefully selected images and mark making. Please join us for our Third Friday Public Reception on February 18 from 6 - 9 pm, where you can meet Donna and check out the latest works by our nine Triangle-based artists.

Below are two of the many offerings currently on view. On the left, Arrangement in Blues, an acrylic painting of flowers incorporating original hand-painted & monoprinted paper by Jenny Blazing, and on the right, an acrylic portrait on canvas, Nui's Apprehension, by Darius Quarles.

King Godwin featured on WRAL Tar Heel Traveler

The amazing multi-layered art of autistic artist and gallery member, King Godwin, was recently documented in a video by the Tar Heel Traveler for WRAL.com. The Tar Heel Traveler, also known as journalist Scott Mason, travels all around North Carolina to report on the most unique and interesting people and places in our state. This video gives an up-close look at King working on some of his pieces, and explains how he came to be an artist, as well as some of the deeper meaning behind the numbers that adorn all of King's colorful and highly personal creations. Yuko Taylor featured on WRAL Tar Heel Traveler

Our member artist, Yuko Nogami Taylor, was recently featured in a wonderful video piece by the Tar Heel Traveler for WRAL.com. The Tar Heel Traveler, also known as journalist Scott Mason, travels all around North Carolina to report on the most unique and interesting people and places in our state. His piece on Yuko reveals some of the extensive technique that she uses in creating her traditional Japanese paintings, and discusses some of the cultural inspirations that have influenced Yuko's work since she moved from Japan to the US. Jim McKeon’s recent exhibit highlighted by Duke Chronicle

The Duke Chronicle has published a thought-provoking article about our member artist, Jim McKeon. Written by Katherine Zhong, it highlights several artworks from Jim's recent featured exhibit at 5 Points Gallery, and discusses the deeper meaning inherent to these pieces. While some of Jim's art is lighthearted and playful, some of his other works intentionally focus on more serious issues like racism, the pandemic, and social injustice. Teddy Devereux featured in NIEHS article

One of our artists, Teddy Devereux, was the subject of a fascinating profile piece by John Yewell, that was published in the December 2021 newsletter of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). This article discusses Teddy's previous career as a research scientist at NIEHS and how she became interested in making fused glass art, while also delving into her artistic process and some of the scientific themes that continue to inspire her fused glass creations.
